Murang’a Women Representative Sabina Chege was attacked on social media after she praised herself for putting up a not-so safe footbridge in Kiawanduma village, Murang’a County.

She posted the photos on Facebook of her team working on the wooden footbridge on a local river and later the complete bridge but wananchi did not take it easily, saying such bridges do not have place in the modern society.

“The wait is over now. It is a new dawn for residents of Kiawanduma/Iyego and Gitugi. They have been walking and sometimes riding very far due to lack of a connecting bridge between these two villages” she posted.

She added; “Many school going children had to risk their lives by swimming across the river to and fro school. It is unfortunate that some had been swallowed up by its surging waters. My team joined the affected community in putting up a footbridge to ease movement. Touching and transforming lives remains my clarion call”.

But close to 2, 000 followers who commented on her page, very few sided with her.

They said it was a disgrace and backwardness. They slammed the leadership for taking them for a ride.

An embattled Sabina later replied to the comments; “Thanks all for the great concern. A bird in hand is worth nine in the bush. In the same spirit we can join hands and do a better job if you meant what you wrote… all the same #ifikie CS Macharia….Kiawanduma people needs help. Blessings”
