Citizen TV news anchor and sports journalist Waihiga Mwaura revealed that he was set to get Sh100, 000 from the National Olympics Committee of Kenya (Nock) as facilitation fee in 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil but he purportedly declined.

The Award-Winning told a Nairobi Court that he learnt there was money allocated to him days later.

Mwaura was testifying in a case former Nock officials and former Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario are charged with misappropriation of Sh55 million during the 2016 Olympic Games.

Mwaura who promised to help investigators unravel the fraud said all his expenses there were catered by his employer.

“I wish to state that we came back to Nairobi on August 26, 2016 via Ethiopian Airline and I later aired stories on Citizen TV related to the ‘Rio fiasco” he told the court.

Former Sports CS Hassan Wario is charged alongside Nock officials for misappropriating millions in 2016 Rio Olympics.

He said he did not have any talks with Nock officials and other people involved in preparations of the Olympics.
