A week after Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria toured yet to be opened Kenyatta University Referral Hospital and raised concerns, the President’s Delivery Unit (PDU) has reacted.
The masterpiece hospital was completed last year at a cost of Sh11 billion but up-to-date it has not opened, raising concerns if it has become another white elephant project.
Kuria shared photos and captioned them; “ Kenyatta University Referral Hospital completed four years ago. Yet to start operations despite the fact we are already paying Chinese loan on this. My heart bled for Kenya. Lord hear us. Gracious Lord hear us”.
Yesterday PDU shared magnificent aerial photos and that of facilities and machines installed in the hospital.
“This is Kenyatta University Referral Hospital, Built at a cost of Ksh 11 Billion, project commenced in 2014 and was completed in 2018. The hospital will ease pressure on @KNH hospital and enhance capacity building of health workers in the region #Big4Agenda #KenyaMbele” PDU stated.
Kenya was loaned Sh9.85 billion by Exim Bank of China to built the hospital whose construction contract was awarded to China Jiangxi Corporation for International Economic and Technical Corporation.
The hospital was intended to have 600 bed capacity, 21-bed Intensive Care Unit, eight theaters, dialysis units and latest in imaging equipment. Eager Kenyans wait for its official opening.
