ODM party leader Raila Odinga has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now under treatment at The Nairobi Hospital.
His condition was announced by his personal doctor David Olunya who said he is responding well to treatment.
Raila was admitted to hospital on March 9 after he complained of fatigue and body aches. This was after an extensive tour of the Coast region last week.
It was reported he was to have a meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta early this week but that didi not happen as he was tired.
It is likely by weekend he was aware he had contracted the disease.
“We have confirmed that Rt. Hon. Odinga has SARS-2 COVID 19. We are continuing to monitor his progress,” Statement from Olunya reads.
Raila had earlier said in a statement that he received a briefing from doctors who had conducted numerous tests on him for the last two days to arrive at an accurate diagnosis.
“While the tests were several, one important result, which I have authorized the doctors to make public is that I have been found to have been exposed to Covid-19. Despite the fact that I feel strong and in good shape after a few days in hospital, I have agreed with my doctors to undertake the mandatory quarantine,” Raila said.
