Twenty-four athletes from Central counties will represent the region in the national cross country competitions next week in Eldoret, Rift Valley region.
Of this group, 18 athletes are drawn from Nyandarua County, five from Muranga and one from Kirinyaga. Nyandarua emerged victorious in the regional contest.
Central region has Murang’a, Nyandarua, Kiambu, Nyeri and Kirinyaga Counties. The 24 participants were selected during inter-county competitions on Saturday at Murang’a Teachers College.
Participants battled out in six, eight and ten kilometres races. The team will face off with other regions on February 23 in Eldoret.
Murang’a County Sports boss Edward Muiruri said plans are underway to construct playing field in all 35 wards to support sports. Nyandarua government promised to sponsor winners to participate in the 43rd edition of IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Denmark on March 30.
