Nairobi County will be run by the national government after Governor Mike Sonko ceded some functions in am agreement signed today.

Today at State House, a besieged Sonko signed agreement with Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.

The signing was witnessed by President Uhuru Kenyatta, Speaker of the Senate Kenneth Lusaka and the Attorney General Paul Kihara.

Uhuru government will run the crucial dockets in City Hall.

The move is supported by Article 187 of the constitution that allows function or power of government at one level may be transferred to a government at the other level by agreement between the governments if it will be more effectively performed or exercised there.

The Uhuru government will thus take the following county functions; Health Services, Transport, County Public Works, Utilities and Ancillary services and Planning and Development.
