Nairobi MCAs are debating a bill that if passed into law will direct matatu operators in the capital city to give special attention to the disabled, elderly, pregnant women and other persons with special needs using matatus.

The Nairobi City County Public Transport and Traffic Management Bill, 2018 provides that while boarding and disembarking matatus these vulnerable persons will be given priority.

Also the matatu driver and conductor will reserve seats for them, failure to which they will be liable to a fine ranging from Sh50, 000 to half a million or six months jail term or both.

The proposed bill also touches on other areas in transport sector that will see radical changes if it becomes a Nairobi County Act.
