Kirinyaga Chief who fought illicit liquors killed in road accident

Mwerua location Chief David Mwai Kiragu was purportedly killed in a hit-and-run accident at Thumaita area along Kagio-Baricho road on wee hours of Sunday morning.

He was riding on a bodaboda when they were rammed by unknown motorist who fled the scene. Kiragu’s body was found on the road, next to it unconscious bodaboda rider and the motorcycle.

Kiragu was one of the Chiefs who sustained war against illegal liquors in his area of administration. Kirinyaga West Sub-County Commissioner Moses Ivuto praised him as a dedicated, honest government officer.

He died as he was coming from Kagio Town where he lead a crackdown on illicit brew.
