Popular Kiamaiko abattoirs will be moved to Njiru area in Kasarani Constituency and dealers have said they will not fight the plan in the offing.

Kiamaiko slaughterhouses are famous with goat and sheep meat, serving the city and beyond but these abattoirs in Mathare constituency have been found unhygienic by NEMA.

Operators of the 15 slaughterhouses there told the Nairobi Assembly Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries that they are willing to relocate to the area where they hope to slaughter over 300 goats and sheep they have been slaughtering daily.

“The Committee found that the limited space at Kiamaiko cannot be suitable for slaughterhouse. We welcome the voluntary relocation to a larger Njiru area as affirmed by the Kiamaiko proprietors” the committee chairman Joseph Komu said.

Kiamaiko will be turned into butcheries or meat market like the Burma market along Jogoo road.
