Kenya’s strongest man dies

He oozed extra-ordinary strength, having vehicles ran over him without suffering fractures or injuries. He was the strongest man in Kenya, and perhaps Africa.

Conrad Njeru Karukenya is the man who was nicknamed ‘Tiger Power’. Today he breathed his last at Consolata Hospital in Kyeni, Embu County aged 73.

Tiger Power was an entertainer. He performed extraordinary stunts that besides vehicles with four or more occupants being driven over his stomach, he would break six-inch nails with his teeth and lift a crateful of beer with his teeth.

He said he realised his unusual gift by accident as he was guiding an ox-cart downhill with 2.1 tonnes of coffee. Its brakes failed and unexpectedly run over his stomach. To his surprise he was unhurt despite the huge load. He then started exploiting the gift. That was in 1960s while he was still in school.
