Late Kikuyu benga musician Joseph Kamaru’s first wife Susan Wangari passed away last weekend and is scheduled to be buried on Friday at Watuha village in Kangema, Murang’a County.
Wangari succumbed to cardiac arrest on Saturday, four months and 20 days since her husband died from Parkinson’s disease at MP Shah Hospital.
The mother of three was undergoing treatment at MP Shah Hospital but died at her daughter’s home in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County. She died aged 77 years whereas Kamaru passed on at age of 79.
Wangari was co-wife of the late Rev Teresia Wanjiku with whom Kamaru established Christian Campaigning Ministry in 2002 after the benga maestro deserted secular music. Wanjiku, his second wife and mother of two died on September 2017 aged 64.
Wangari was living in the Kangema home where she will be buried. Kamaru and Wanjiku lived in homes in Kigumo, Murang’a County and Thome Estate, Nairobi. Kamaru was heroically laid to rest at his home in Muthithi, Kigumo in October 2018.
