Members of the Harambee sacco will now be able to get instant visa debit cards through a system enabled by the cooperative bank.
Previously, such card would take two weeks once applied for but now the customers will have it instantly after it was launched today.
This is a first for saccos and will be very beneficial to the over 70, 000 members of the Harambee sacco.
Harambee sacco has an asset base of Sh30 billion and runs six branches across the country.
The sacco chairman Macloud Malonza said the partnership with Cooperative bank will significantly boost convenience for members of the sacco.
“The launch of this instant card issuance is timely, indeed overdue, as it will greatly enhance convenience for our members who from today no longer have to wait for weeks before they receive their cards” Malonza said.
Adding; “This instant issuing of cards is consistent with government guidelines intended to minimise the use of cash in favour of cashless transactions in an effort to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19”.
Cooperative bank director of banking Vincent Marangu lauded the move.
“This launch is the latest among various digital banking solutions provided by the bank to enhance efficiency of co-operative societies for the benefit of their members and prosperity of the co-operative movement at large” Marangu said.
He said the issuance of the cards will be rolled out to all saccos that are providing Visa debt Cards to members through the bank.
