Former Kigumo MP ‘Bishop’ Kihara Mwangi passes on


Sixth Member of Parliament for Kigumo Constituency in Murang’a County Onesmus Kihara Mwangi has passed on today morning at Nairobi Hospital.

He was ill for a long time and away from public glare. At one time he accrued a medical bill of over Sh5 million.

The former MP was nicknamed “Bishop” for leading the Parliament sittings and meetings in prayers.

Kihara, a Land Economist and Surveyor professional served for two consecutive terms from 1997 to 2007. He was dislodged by former Cabinet Minister Jamleck Kamau.

He defeated Kirore Mwaura in 1997 elections. Those who had served before him include late Kariuki Njiiri, Munene J.F, Njuguna Mwangi and Francis Mwangi Thuo.

The incumbent MP Wangari Mwaniki eulogised him as “Well known for his service to the public and his dedication for constituency work developments”.
