A 19-year-old Form two student at Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls High School in Nyeri committed suicide yesterday morning over family woes.

Joan Mumbi hanged herself in the dormitory using a bed sheet. The mother of one left a suicide note saying she was under intense pressure from her father to do better in her studies.

She added that her parent’s separation and subsequent problems pushed her to kill herself. She had requested her father to transfer her to another school. But the father claims it was not a suicide. Says he was in good terms with her.
