Crooks behind killing and subsequent selling of donkey meat and skin struck Kabati area in Murang’a and slaughtered two donkeys this week.
The donkey and its young one (foal) were stolen, slaughtered and their carcasses left in a thicket near Kabati market. The illegal, unsafe meat is suspected to have been sold to butchery and hotel operators there, Thika or Nairobi, with or without their knowledge.
There has been an increase in demand for donkey meat and its skin that is reportedly used by Chinese for making traditional medicine. This has encouraged theft and slaughter of these beasts of burden.
