There was a time the late veteran politician and businessman Kenneth Matiba stuck in a faulty lift alone for about 90 minutes as Nairobi fire brigade team and Kenya Police struggled to free him.
It was on October 19, 1986 afternoon Matiba, then Minister for Works, Housing and Physical Planning hopped into a lift at Capitol Hill Towers to attend an official meeting, few minutes after using the same lifts after he checked into the office.
He found himself in a jinxed situation when the lift jammed at seventh floor of the building that housed his ministry.
The lift scaled up from ground floor to 10th floor, down to 7th floor then stalled.
The frightened minister was left at the mercy of the contraption. He told journalists he entered the lift when he realised his VIP lift had jammed but when the lift reached ground floor it failed to open, then raced up to 10th floor, then down to 7th floor where it stalled, doors closed from around 12.15 Pm to 1.45Pm.
