28 counties pass BBI bill

The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) bill has attained the needed endorsement of 24 counties for it to move to Parliament.

By today afternoon 28 counties had endorsed it and only Baringo county had rejected the bill.

The counties that have so far passed it are; Nairobi, Kajiado, Kisii, Trans Nzoia, Taita Taveta, Bungoma, Murang’a, Mombasa, Nyeri, Siaya, Homa Bay, Kisumu, Busia, West Pokot, Laikipia, Samburu, Kakamega, Narok, Vihiga, Nyamira, Lamu, Nyandarua, Garissa, Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kirinyaga and Nakuru.

Siaya county was the first to endorse the BBI.

Next it will be tabled in Parliament and Senate where it will need simple majority for President to sign it into an Act.

If majority of MPs and Senators reject it will be submitted to the public to decide in a referendum.

It was taken to county assemblies after 3.1 million Kenyans endorsed it and the signatures were verified by IEBC.
